The Division of Environmental Quality is inviting all interested public and private agencies to join in the celebration of the 23rd Annual Environmental Awareness throughout the month of April 2006.

This year’s theme, “Our Environment, the Pride of Marianas” intends to outdo the commemoration of previous EAW events.

Community involvement, stewardship, and fun are integral elements of this momentous occasion. An information-sharing meeting is scheduled for Fri, Jan. 27, 1:30pm at the DEQ conference room.

DEQ is challenging all community members and agencies to show Marianas pride for our environment by participating in the celebration. Annual events slated for the environmental awareness month include Environmental Expo, Recycling Competition, Marianas Cleanup, Lagoon Cleanup, SCUBA Cleanup, and a Poem and Essay Competition.

For the first time, the community will have an opportunity to nominate an “environmental hero.” There will be awards for each of the categories: Business, Community, Individual and Young Hero.

For more information about DEQ’s Environmental Awareness celebration and its activities, please call Jonathan Arriola, EAW 2006 chairman, or Reina Camacho, vice chairman, at 664-8500. You may also contact Camacho through email at deqpio@vzpacifica.net. (PR)
