Okays knock out Amigas
Janice Camacho was muy macho under the lights of Tan Ge Field on Thursday night as the stylish slugger reached perfection on a night when It’s Okay led from bell to bell over the Pacific Amigas for its sixth win of the Women’s Island-Wide Slow-Pitch Softball League.
Camacho was a purple-clad champ at the plate by hitting 4-for-4 with three singles, a double, and driving in a run for It’s Okay, but she wasn’t the only one with a night to remember at the Oleai Sports Complex.
Both Sheena Sablan and Shirley Ada came up big with inside-the-park homeruns that fueled the offensive machine, but Sablan’s round tripper came in grand fashion when she drove in Camacho, Merselyn Santos, and Lucy Aldan before crossing home plate herself.
Sablan added an RBI single to finish the game 2-for-4 with five runs batted in, while Santos went 3-for-4 with three singles and a pair of ribbies for the ladies.
First baseman Dolores Yanneris added another solid outing with the swat stick as she belted out a pair of singles and drove in a run, but Aldan stole the show with a terrific two-way play.
Aldan allowed five runs off of 11 hits and fanned three in her five inning complete game win, but she showed her stuff at the plate with a flawless 4-for-4 outing that yielded three singles, a double, and a run batted in.
It’s Okay (6-4) took the lead form the word “go” by scoring three runs in the top of the first. The Amigas (3-6) answered with a pair in the bottom of the inning, but It’s Okay shook them with a six-run outburst in the top of the second and never looked back. With a 9-3 lead heading into the top of the fourth, It’s Okay drove the final nail into the coffin with another seven runs that sealed the deal.
Hitters 47, Tanapag Lady-8ers 0
There was little joy in Mudville on Thursday night as the mighty Hitters hammered the seemingly defenseless Tanapag Lady-8ers by scoring an average of nearly 10 runs per inning during their 47-0 romp at Tan Ge Field.
The Hitters (6-2) cruised within a half game of first place Bomsoro (6-1) and reached their total by smacking 35 hits and by sending 14 of their 18 walked batters across home plate. Second baseman Rose Taman was incredible as the future all-star hit for the cycle en route to a perfect 6-for-6 performance at the plate. Taman hit a single, three doubles, a triple, and an inside-the-park homerun and drove in seven runs on the night.
She put her base running skills to work as well by scoring six times, thanks in part to help from teammates Thelma Mizer and center fielder Merlly Actouka. Actouka hit 5-for-5 on the night with four singles, a double, and five runs batted in while the shortstop Mizer went 4-for-4 with a single, a double, and a pair of inside-the-park homeruns to finish the game with seven ribbies.
Pitcher Felisa Brel was Brel-iant in her six-hit complete game shutout, and even contributed with a single, a double, and five RBIs on the offensive side of the ball.
There was little chance that the Lady-8ers would pull off the upset early on as the Hitters scored six runs in the top of the first and followed with seven in the second to take a commanding 13-0 lead. They continued to bring in the noise and bring in the funk in the third when they exploded for 15 runs to up the ante to 28-0, and added insult to injury when they piled on an additional 11 runs in the fourth for a 39-0 lead.
The umpires could barely wait for the end of the fifth inning to roll around so that they could invoke the 10-run mercy rule—which they did after the Hitters added another eight runs.
