Police arrested on Thursday a man who allegedly beat up his niece and her boyfriend for quarreling inside his apartment in As Lito.

Vincent A. Palacios, 35, was arrested for assault and battery, criminal mischief, and disturbing the peace.

During a hearing yesterday afternoon, Superior Court Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona ordered that the bail remains at $2,000 cash as previously imposed by Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo.

Manglona set the preliminary hearing for Feb. 13.

According to Detective Juan Castro Mendiola in his report filed in court, Palacios, his niece and her boyfriend were at the defendant’s apartment on Jan. 15, 2006 at 1:04am.

Palacios and his niece’s boyfriend were drinking beer. Later the two allegedly started quarreling, making the defendant mad.

The defendant allegedly pushed and punched the boyfriend in the face, causing the latter to fall to the ground.

Palacios allegedly grabbed a hollow block and damaged the boyfriend’s car with it. He also reportedly punched his niece in the face and kicked her in the stomach, police said.

Palacios then allegedly took out a knife, but his niece held him and managed to take the knife. (Ferdie de la Torre)
