Borja is MPLA’s best employee for fourth quarter 2005
It’s business as usual for the Marianas Public Lands Authority, even as the new administration of Gov. Benigno R. Fitial declared that it wants the agency abolished through legislation.
The agency’s employees gathered at the conference room Friday afternoon to recognize outstanding employees for the last quarter of 2005.
Deputy commissioner Vincent Castro led the gathering and gave out a plaque of recognition to Norma DeLeon Guerrero Borja of the agency’s Human Resources Division. Borja bested three other nominees for the recognition, which automatically makes her one of the MPLA’s nominees for the CNMI government’s “Outstanding Employee of the Year” award on Labor Day.
“It’s overwhelming, really overwhelming,” Borja said after receiving the award. Despite the controversies plaguing the MPLA, she said she prefers to simply concentrate on her job. “I just continue with my work and do what I’m supposed to do with my daily work.”
Borja bested the other nominees from other MPLA offices, including Richard Santos of Homestead, Jeff Dela Cruz of Registry, and Ben Torres of Planning. Besides getting a plaque of recognition, Borja also gets to avail of a reserved parking space at the MPLA for one quarter.
Castro said the division heads endorsed the nominees for excellent performance. “We call them our heroes and our stars of the quarter,” the deputy commissioner added.
The employees had snacks and refreshments after the informal ceremony. Commissioner Edward DeLeon Guerrero and the MPLA board members were not at the gathering.
MPLA spokesman Ed Arriola Jr. said the gathering lifts the spirit of employees amid the controversies faced by the agency. “It’s still business as usual,” he said.
Regarding plans to abolish the agency, Arriola said the staff should be educated about it and the possible consequences on the MPLA workforce.
