Q: Are guest workers permitted to go anywhere and perform any activity they wish after work hours?
A: Alien workers may go anywhere and perform any legal activity they wish during their off-hours. But they are not allowed to work for another employer or start a business venture. The regular working hours are stated in the employment contract.
Q: Are employers allowed to charge their housemaids or farmers for food and housing expenses?
A: Employees being paid less than the minimum wage of $3.05, including housemaids and farmers, cannot be charged for food and housing. No deduction may be made for housing, food, or any other expenses unless it is provided in the employment contract approved by the Labor director.
Q: Does Labor collect filing fee from any complaint workers?
A: Labor collects $20 filing fee for labor complaint. But complaining workers may request for a waiver of such fee if they qualify as an indigent and they are unable to pay.
