Wabol is appointed as new DPS deputy
Acting Department of Public Safety commissioner Ernest M. Williams has appointed former acting DPS commissioner Juan I. Wabol as the new deputy commissioner for the department.
Williams said that, by virtue of Wabol’s appointment, all division directors and bureau/section commanders are to report under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner.
“Please extend your usual cooperation and assistance to Mr. Wabol as he assumes this new and more pressing responsibility,” said the acting commissioner in a memorandum he issued last week and released to the media yesterday.
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial and Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez appointed in January 2006 Wabol, who was then the acting Fire Division chief, as acting DPS commissioner.
Wabol, however, was not subjected to Senate confirmation as the administration recently replaced him with Williams.
Wabol returned as assistant Fire chief. He has been with the DPS for 24 years now. He spent his entire career at the Fire Division. He started as a fire fighter 1 and rose from the ranks until he became the acting chief of Fire.
