This morning scores of future football stars will sprint down the greens of the Garapan Elementary School and the American Memorial Park soccer pitches for the preliminary round of the Duty Free Shoppers Galleria Cup Soccer tournament.

The seven-on-seven action gets underway bright and early at 8am as two groups of girls from 10 of the CNMI’s schools look to advance to the next round. Tournament action will be fast and furious as all of the matches are scheduled to start at 8am and be completed at 11:30am.

The teams from Gregorio T. Camacho, Grace Christian Academy, Garapan Elementary, Koblerville Elementary, and San Antonio will all play at the GES pitch.

The entire event was originally planned to be held at the GES, but the overwhelming response by the schools have forced organizers to find additional room at the American Memorial Park.

The teams lacing up the spikes and bending it like Beckham at the AMP are William S. Reyes, Tanapag Elementary, Dan Dan Elementary, Kagman Elementary, and the Fightin’ Canaries of San Vicente.

Two weeks ago, teams from Garapan Elementary School, Gregory T. Camacho, Tanapag, San Vicente, San Antonio, Dan Dan, Koblerville, Kagman, William S. Reyes, Grace Christian Academy, Saipan International School, Whispering Palms, and Tinian showed up for the boys tourney in what Dale Roberts calls “The largest All Schools soccer tournament ever on Saipan.”

Dan Dan, Grace Christian Academy, GES, and Gregorio T. Camacho will have their Final Four showdown and championships next week with the girls on Saturday, April 1.
