While triathletes across the globe have spent months preparing for the swim, mountain bike, and run courses of the 2006 XTERRA Saipan Championship, many will scramble to get ready for this weekend’s race—but in a good way.

The XTERRA Soccer Scramble 5-kilometer and 10-km trail runs are all set for this tomorrow evening at 5pm at the American Memorial Park for those who just can’t wait for Saturday morning to experience the off-road experience of the extreme challenge.

In addition to being a visually stimulating welcome to the jungle runs of Saipan, the Scramble will be a benefit for the Northern Mariana Islands Football (Soccer) Association—with one-third of every entry fee will go directly to the fledgling organization.

According to the director of marketing for Team Unlimited/XTERRA Trey Garman, organizers are hoping for a huge turnout for the fundraising event not only to raise money, but to spread the word about living well.

“Each year we designate a different charity with the common goal of promoting the healthy, active, outdoors lifestyle for Saipan’s youth,” he said.

The cost to participate in either the XTERRA Soccer Scramble 5-kilometer or 10-km trail runs is $15, and entrants receive a T-shirt and light refreshments in addition to the jaunt. (Brad E. Ruszala)
