Saipan Swim Club star Nina Mosley and head coach Michael Stewart are off to test the waters with the best swimmers in the world this week when they represent the CNMI in the 8th FINA World Swimming Championships in Shanghai, China.

Stewart will be right there every step of the way when Mosley takes the block in the impressive 15,000-seat retractable roof Qi Zhong Stadium on Wednesday, April 5, through Sunday, April 9.

The duo will not be alone—far from it, as top athletes from 128 countries will put their best stroke forward in the land of the Great Wall, the Ming Dynasty, and Tiananmen Square.

“It’s going to be exciting. I’m going to see a lot of old friends that I haven’t seen in a while from the States. Not a lot of the world stars are going to be there. The United States just had the NCAAs and their Senior National Championships so a lot of the big U.S. kids are not going to be there. I looked at the list of Australia, and they’ll be there in force. I don’t know if any world records will be broken but there will definitely be some good swimming,” said Stewart.

The coach would not speculate as to Mosley’s chances in China, but said that she has had a difficult road to recovery after her rigorous training regimen caused her to miss a number of local events with a shoulder injury. Now Stewart said that the SSC star has fulfilled all of his requirements to attend the meet.

“She got a bum wing a month ago and we’ve been kind of playing with it to get her into race shape. It’s been a month long experiment. She just had to meet my criteria training wise to make it, and she met it,” he said.

While there, Mosley will compete in the 50m, 100m, and 200m freestyle, the 50m and 100m butterfly, the 50m and 100m breaststroke, as well as the 50m backstroke and the 100m IM.

Reports of her progress will be available here in the Saipan Tribune in the coming days.
