NMC-CREES open house today
The Northern Marianas College Cooperative Research, Extension and Education Services is inviting the entire community to an open house today.
NMC-CREES Food and Stamp Nutrition Education Program officer Joanne Ogo said the annual event would showcase the different projects and programs under the CREES wing. She said the event aims to promote the programs of the extension office and “what we have been doing for the community.”
The event is in line with the celebration of NMC’s 25th Silver Anniversary and will be held from 9am to 4pm today at the Building D front lawn.
NMC president Tony V. Deleon Guerrero said NMC-CREES programs are federally funded programs through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. “The mission of the NMC-CREES is, ‘To be the leader in providing quality programs, services and information in order to improve the CNMI’s people, environment, and economy through agriculture, family, and consumer sciences.’”
During the open house, guests could expect a wide array of program displays, including: an Agriculture and Aquaculture program display and facility tour; EFNEP/FSNEP program display and office tour that includes food demonstration, reading food labels, “Where’s the fat/sugar” activities and portion sizes activities; and 4H Youth Development program display, office tour and children activities.
The event will also include an Entomology Lab Tour and program display; Livestock Program display; PowerPoint and Video presentation on dry litter waste management; Community Resource Development program display that includes youth money management and legal aspects facing older adults in the CNMI; and food and drink sampling.
