It has been a couple of months since the top local teams donned the board shorts for any serious competition, but some of the big guns turned out at the Garapan sand as Tyce and Angie Mister combined with Bill Owens as Welcome To The Jungle took the Bon Voyage Beach Volleyball Tournament on Sunday afternoon at the Hyatt Regency Saipan.

The Jungle threesome was favored to go a long way once they added their names as the final team of the six-squad field, and they delivered with a string of convincing wins that led them to their 11-3 Portobello pounding of Mushroom Tip in the finale.

Despite their best efforts, Dale Roberts, Todd Montgomery, Mark McDonald, and Laurie Peterka were unable to stop the champs from claiming their brunches from Giovanni’s as the winners of the tournament.

Angie Mister received an added bonus of a complementary night’s stay at the Hyatt Regency Saipan after being named as the tournament’s most valuable player.

The Tips didn’t walk away empty-handed as they each earned 30-minute massages from Club Elan for sending Grease Lightning to the consolation match after a thrilling match that ended 11-7.

In light of outgoing Club Elan manager Faheem Ebrahim’s imminent departure from Saipan, the Hyatt put together a three-on-three co-ed beach volleyball tournament to give him one last chance at going out on top.

Unfortunately Ebrahim and his teammates from Grease Lightning were unable to reach the finals, but they still managed a respectable third place finish and a complementary day at Club Elan when they dispatched Rob Eply, Bruce Berline, and Linda Anastacio of the aptly named Faheem’s Followers, 11-2 in the consolation game.
