Beach ball tonight at PIC
A number of Saipan’s finest players hit the Garapan sand on Sunday as the Hyatt Regency Saipan hosted a co-ed three-person farewell tournament for Faheem Ebrahim, but the sand court behind the Pacific Islands Club will be the place to be during the week as the 7th Annual Spring Co-ed Four’s Beach Volleyball League gets underway tonight.
Before the first serve crosses the net, teams will be formed during the traditional preseason draft banquet at the PIC at 6pm. All players interested must be present or have signed up and paid prior to the event.
The courtside setting will be packed with players bumping, setting, and spiking while the new crop of captains shape their season by filling their rosters with the talented and the not so talented.
Once the draft is complete, games will be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 5:30pm and 10pm during the season and will consist of three sets up to 11 points apiece. Each seven-member team will field four players at a time, with one bumper, setter, or spiker being a female.
According to PIC Sports, Entertainment, and Activities director Jon Cramer, the length of the season will depend on the number of teams entered into the league, but he said that he expects it will last roughly eight weeks.
The cost to participate in the season is $25 per person, and only $20 for members of the Northern Marianas Islands Volleyball Association. Participants also receive the added benefits of $10 PIC Waterpark passes throughout the season, a league T-shirt, and a discount on Pacific Trading Co. products at PIC anytime while league is in progress.
