The Division of Immigration has augmented the airport inspectors on Rota with office staff to provide fast services to passengers and avoid delays for the airlines.

Immigration Director Melvin Grey said that the new arrangement provides for efficient processing while enhancing services rendered to airlines.

Grey said it also accommodates the comfort and convenience of travelers, particularly tourists.

The director explained that Rota airport inspectors board the arriving aircraft and retrieve for processing the passports of passengers who are not deplaning on the island.

He said the Rota airport inspectors are now being augmented by office’s staff who have inspection authority.

Before the operational procedures often allowed for only one inspector to be present to check the planes.

“This led to unnecessary delays for the airlines while inconveniencing the passengers,” Grey said.

He added this promotes a positive image for the CNMI Immigration.
