Grace Enriquez and Vinni Orsini graduated with top honors during the Oleai Elementary School promotional ceremony held late Thursday afternoon.

The scent of fresh flower filled the Multi-Purpose Center as some 63 lei-covered graduates gathered on stage to receive their diplomas.

During her keynote speech, Commissioner awardee Enriquez extended her appreciation to the teachers for their support.

“I would like to say thank you to all of you teachers for your dedication. …You [all] have worked so hard to make sure that we have the tools needed toward the achievement of our goal of becoming responsible citizens,” she said.

Enriquez encouraged her peers to continue to strive for the best. “This may be an exit from our elementary years, but those wonderful years had built in us the confidence and courage to move on and take more steps forward to become better achievers,” she said.

Orsini, who received the Principal’s Award, also shared the stage to extend his appreciation to his parents and teachers.

In his closing remarks, Orsini shared with his peers a proverb. “An ancient Chinese proverb says that a journey begins with the first step. The only way to know is to think and learn. To succeed, you have to make the effort to accomplishing your goals,” he said.

Orsini encouraged his peers to always hope for the best. “As we move on, we sometimes will not get everything our way and we will find hardships along our path, but if we expect the unexpected, the hardships would not be that difficult to face alone,” he added.

Graduates were also recognized with awards for “A” Average, Perfect Attendance, Citizenship, President’s Achievement, President’s Excellence, Subject Excellence, Bilingual, Leadership, and Honorable Mention.
