NYBA fetes champions, top performers
The Northern Youth Basketball Association had its 2006 season close to a Thursday night with an awards banquet held at the Chamolinian Cultural Village in Garapan.
One by one, statistical leaders in the blocks, steals, assists, and rebounds department were honored as well as the top defensive, offensive players, and MVPS of the 12-and-under, 14-and-under, 16-and-under divisions.
NYBA co-founder and Sparks head coach George Cruz served as master of ceremonies, while Garapan Rollers head honcho Joe Diaz and NYBA official Patrinos Mario ably supported him in giving away the awards.
After the top performers were honored, it was the turn of the champion teams to be on center stage with Garapan Rollers II receiving their 12-and-under trophy after beating sister team G-Rollers I, 28-24, Monday night.
Also staking claim to championship hardware were G-Rollers I, which beat the CTSI Logistics-backed House of Manhoeben Saints, 43-33, last May 22 at the Garapan Basketball Court, and G-Rollers II, which nipped G-Rollers I with a miraculous shot by Preston Basa, 62-61, also Monday.
