With continuing efforts to promote the CNMI as a tourist destination in China, Century Tours recently hosted the Xi’an TV media group from May 20-23, 2006. The media group consisted of the editor-in-chief, one photographer, and two reporters from the Xi’an TV Station from Shan Xi Province, China.

During their visit and in an effort to better understand what the CNMI has to offer, the media group requested an interview with the Marianas Visitors Authority.

Editor-in-chief Zhang Bae Kun interviewed MVA acting deputy managing director Martin Duenas and MVA marketing manager Wayne Pangelinan. One of the questions asked of MVA was how the Marianas – Saipan, Tinian, Rota will be marketed in Northwest China.

“We are focusing on creating awareness in the larger cities in China initially. We rely on organizations as Xi’an TV to help us as we promote the CNMI in Northwest China,” said Duenas.

Kun said that, with a population of over 4 million, Xi’an city has no beaches due to its central location in China, thus the CNMI is an attractive destination. She also expressed her excitement and interest in the CNMI. The coverage of Saipan will be aired in the Xi’ an TV program entitled “Happy Travel.” The program is aired daily and will be featuring the Marianas – Saipan, Tinian, and Rota five times in the month of June 2006. Four million viewers are expected to see the program.

“TV publicity is invaluable as we promote the CNMI as a destination. This opportunity allows us to reach a large audience with little expense to MVA. We look forward to the exposure in China and look forward to continued growth in the China market. We would also like to extend our thanks to Century Tours for their assistance,” said Pangelinan.
