NMC student wins trip to Manila conference
Yang, who is double majoring in majoring in business management and accounting; will attend the 6th Pacific Region Investment Conference on Nov. 9 and 10 at the Shangri-la Makati, and discuss the thrust of her paper with the board of the association during the conference.
Yang submitted an essay to win her place for the region. She will attend the conference as a result of a stipend from the association, and through the sponsorship of Continental Airlines.
Yang expects to graduate in May 2007. After graduation, she said, “I plan to open my own business in China. I’m thinking of opening a tour agency in Beijing.”
Gerard Cruz, chairman of the association; said, “I am delighted that students around the region have seen the importance of financial management of funds. I hope that Lucy will continue in the direction she has chosen, to the benefit of the region in the future. We need special people to move the legacy of caring fiscal responsibility forward through the generations.”
Association executive director Daniel Roland thanked sponsors of the association and the conference for their support of Yang, and said that her paper obviously impressed the judges at the Northern Mariana Islands College.
“It may well be that in the years ahead this student will be approached to consider public service,” said Roland. “I hope that she will consider responsible board membership of a fund as a worthwhile service office. Both public and private sector funds need talented citizens to sit on their boards. Lucy shows the sort of talent our regional communities need.”
Other regional student winners who will be presenting their papers at the conference, thanks to the association and Continental, are Chester Verango Bataclan of the University of Guam; Erica Chong of Guam Community College; Shelley Remengesau of Palau Community College; Solomon Motlock of the Marshall Islands College and Sergio I. Keller of the College of Micronesia – FSM. [B][I](PR)
