SSC gets hand from Tan
The Saipan Swim Club recently received a donation from a local sporting enthusiast.
According to SSC president Linda Graf, Jerry Tan made a $1,000 donation to the club on behalf of the Tan Holdings Foundation as well as an additional credit of $2,500 at the Fiesta Resort and Spa in Guam to help defray lodging costs when swimmers travel to Guam for meets.
“This generous donation from Tan Holdings will help the SSC with day-to-day expenses and also enable more swimmers to attend swim meets in Guam. We are extremely pleased with this donation and want to thank Jerry Tan for his support of the swim club,” said Graf.
The non-profit club survives solely on membership fees, donations, and fundraisers, and the find allow the local swimmers to operate and compete in both regional and international swim meets.
While SSC head coach Michael Stewart regularly works his tadpoles in the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool in Marpi, the use of the facility does not come cheap. The rent for the pool was ratcheted up a notch when the CUC power rates increased, and the club can either raise rates or raise funds from the community. The local chlorine clan routinely outperforms its regional counterparts and serves as an athletic ambassador during major international events.
