Indoor volleyball playoffs start today
After weeks of serving up bumps, sets, and spikes under the sun, local students will enjoy a ceiling for a change as the Private Schools Indoor Volleyball League playoffs kick off today in the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Fifteen junior varsity and the varsity squads will leave campus a little early over the next couple of weeks in order to get the post-season match-ups underway on time at the Oleai Sports Complex as representatives from Calvary Christian Academy, Grace Christian Academy, Seventh Day Adventist, Mount Carmel School, Saipan Community School, Saipan International School, Whispering Palms School, Marianas Baptist Academy, and Northern Marianas Academy take the rubberized surface.
The junior varsity slate gets started at 2:30pm when Whispering Palms School and Mount Carmel School face off while Saipan Community School simultaneously challenges Calvary Christian Academy on the other side of the gym.
The second set of matches begins when Marianas Baptist Academy and Saipan International School take the court while Grace Christian Academy and Seventh Day Adventist do the same at 3:45pm.
Only the top teams will return to the Ada Gym for the semifinals when the winners take a step close to Thursday afternoon’s finals under the same roof at 3:45pm.
The varsity players get started next week when Mount Carmel School takes on Seventh Day Adventist on Monday, Nov. 6 at 2:30pm, while Marianas Baptist Academy and Northern Marianas Academy take the other side of the court.
The Geckos of Saipan International School battle with Calvary Christian Academy in the 3:45pm contest to round out the afternoon while the Eagles of Grace Christian Academy enjoy a first round bye.
Those who win on Monday will join Grace Christian Academy for the semifinals on Tuesday, Nov. 7, for a pair of 3:30pm games, but only the two unscathed squads will play in Thursday’s finals at 3:45pm.
