NMITF plans upcoming schedule
The Northern Mariana Islands Triathlon Federation was all set to send its members on a swim, bike, and run journey through Marpi last week but a last-minute scheduling conflict resulted in the first race cancellation in the past two years.
A number of triathletes were still geared up for a race and met at Pau Pau on Saturday for a morning of training that took them along their usual race course. Now NMITF race director Sue Knecht is looking to reschedule the event next week and is looking to members to decide the day.
The Rota Blue Triathlon will be happening on Nov. 18, but the local contingent may not be as big as it has been in previous years due to the difficulties in scheduling flights leading up to the event.
While most of the transportation hurdles have been overcome with the help of the Marianas Visitors Authority and Continental Airlines, a sizable group of Saipan-based racers will most likely be staying home.
With that in mind, Knecht is looking to host the next race the same weekend on either Nov. 18 or Nov. 19. All she needs is for the local triathletes to weigh in with their intentions. To do so, contact her via email at sueknecht1@yahoo.com.
