Weather scrubs SML Fall
The Hustlers and the defending Saipan Major League Fall champion Pirates were scheduled to duel on the diamond Wednesday night but Mother Nature had other plans as the games was canceled due to unplayable field conditions.
Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field has played host to many important games in local and regional baseball history but there was no need to burn the lights at the Oleai Sports Complex because the field was still water logged from rain that fell earlier in the day.
The two were going to try it again last night with the decision to come down at game time, and if their contest is scrubbed again league coordinator Tony Rogolifoi will reschedule it after the close of the regular season.
Weather-related delays have been the norm for the SML Fall because the players don their cleats and gloves during the rainy season. Despite the potentially frustrating rescheduling dance, the games give the next generation of stars the opportunity to learn from their older and more experienced counterparts who take the field for the CNMI during international competition.
Regardless of last night’s outcome, the Manhoben Young Guns are set to face the North Stars tonight at 6:30pm. As always, admission to the SML Fall league games is free of charge and offers entertainment fit for the whole family.
