…and inter-government softball too
The drainage at Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field leaves much to be desired in terms of keeping the diamond playable during heavy rains, but the flashy full-sized ballpark that hosted the top teams during the 6th Micronesian Games is scores better than the neighboring confines of Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Softball Field.
Tan Ge Field’s drainage is so poor that it could easily be mistaken for Susupe Lake in the rainy season. The diamond looked more like a newly installed swimming area behind the Sun Palace Inn with the white bases sticking out like buoys to warn tourists of the deep end.
While most of the water was gone by the evening, the field was too soft for the players to tear into, prompting organizers to scrub the triple-header of Inter-Government Slow-Pitch Softball League.
As a result, the contests between Commonwealth Utilities Corp. I and Department of Public Works, Department of Labor and Immigration and Department of Environmental Quality, and the Ports Police against the Legislature will all be rescheduled after the regular season slate is complete.
There were three games slated for last night at the ballpark that were game- time decisions, and the season resumes on Monday when Procurement & Supply takes on DCCA at 6:30pm, followed by ARFF and DPW at 7:30pm, and the finale between CUC I and the Ports Police at 8:30pm.
