NMHC steps up collection efforts by filing suits
The Northern Marianas Housing Corp. has stepped up its collection efforts by filing separate lawsuits against couples who failed to pay their debts.
NMHC sued Bonabe H. Maratita and Emilia E. Maratita; Antonio R. Quitugua and Maria O. Quitugua; and Gwendolyn Maratita and Robert L. Maratita.
Attorney Michael White, counsel for NMHC, stated in the complaint that Bonabe and Emilia Maratita, who are now residing in the Philippines, owe the principal sum of $100,000.
White said Antonio and Maria Maratita, of Rota, owe $13,025, while Gwendolyn and Robert Maratita, also of Rota, are indebted to NMHC in the same amount of $13,025.
NMHC asked the Superior Court to order the defendants to either pay their debts or that their mortgaged properties be sold for payments.
White alleged that on Feb. 9, 1999, Bonabe and Emilia Maratita executed a promissory note in favor of NMHC. The lawyer said Bonabe and Emilia Maratita are in default in that they have not made all of the payments.
With respect to Antonio and Maria Maratita, White said that on June 20, 1988 the two entered into a house lease agreement with the housing agency. He said the couple failed to pay rental and other charges.
In the case against Gwendolyn and Robert Maratita, White said the two entered into a house lease agreement with MMHC in 2002.
The couple also failed to pay rental and other charges, White said.
