The Association of Marianas Council announced yesterday the launching of its first Thanksgiving project, which aims to deliver cooked turkeys to different government agencies on Saipan, Tinian and Rota on Nov. 22, 2006.

Saipan & Northern Islands Municipal Council secretary and Association of Marianas Council president Angel S. Hocog said the initiative is estimated to cost approximately $1,500, to be defrayed from the association’s funds.

Recipients of the council’s initiative on Saipan are the Man’Amko Center, battered women shelter, youth services division, Kagman correctional facility and Maturana House of Prayer on Navy Hill.

The respective municipal councils on Tinian and Rota have yet to identify their recipients.

Chair Marian Tudela, along with vice chair Antonia Tudela and Hocog, will personally deliver the cooked turkeys to the lucky recipients on Saipan on the morning of Nov. 22. The members will be assisted by the Saipan council staff.

Meanwhile, the Saipan council will also be hosting a luncheon at the Minachom At’dao for the visiting basketball team from Barrrigada, Guam, along with the teams from Tinian, Rota and Saipan on Nov. 22. The team from Guam will compete with the teams from Saipan, Tinian and Rota in the upcoming Northern Youth Basketball Invitational Tournamen, which will be held from Nov. 18 to 26, 2006.
