Dublon Chiefs hammering Ballers in rocball action
The Dublon Chiefs are close to picking up win No. 2 as the team dominated against the Ballers yesterday in the ongoing World Organized Rocball Community League at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
The two teams managed to get three sets in the books, and unfortunately for the Ba-llers, all belonged to the Chiefs.
The Chiefs almost skunked their opponents in all sets, but instead settled for two scratch victories and a skunk to take a 51-9 lead with one more set remaining.
The Chiefs controlled the action in the first set, jumping out to a 6-0 lead courtesy of hits by Ybonn Kapwich and Ichnis Kapwich. While the Ballers were struggling to put the ball in play with first serves, the Chiefs looked for a shut out win–skunk in rocball terms. Ichnis was able to connect for a goal, making it 11-4. He then followed up with a xunk and opted to subtract two points from the Ballers. The Chiefs did not get the skunk, but instead, won via scratch after limiting their opponents to below eight points with the 19-2 win.
The Chiefs were itching for the skunk, and again gunned for the feat in the seco–nd set. Like the previous set, the Chiefs dominated and this time around, Ybonn Kapwich was able to connect for a goal to hghlight his team’s charge. All was going well until the Ballers spoiled the Chiefs’ skunk bid by scoring a point late in the set.
It was defeinitely the Chiefs’ day, though, as the Ballers committed another mishap on first serve, which brought their score back to zero. The Chiefs seized the opportunity and quickly put an end to the set for a 16-0 skunk victory.
The Ballers put up their best effort in the third set as the team played better defense in digging up shots by their opponents. Robert Naraja was also effective from the service line, serving up a long floater that made its way past the goalie for a goal.
That was the last push by the Ballers as the Chiefs closed the set strong for another scratch, 16-7.
The fourth set will be played today at 11:30am.
Ybonn Kapwich currently leads the Chiefs with 13 points after hammering away for four aces, a kee, and a goal. Ichnis Kapwich also scored nine points on two aces, a xunk, a kee, and a goal.
Naraja has three points for the Ballers with a goal.
