Dublon Chiefs win second straight
The Dublon Chiefs showed no mercy and played the same way yesterday as they did on Monday to blow away the Ballers in the ongoing World Organized Rocball Community League at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
After winning the first three sets with ease, the Dublon Chiefs picked up where they left off and quickly put an end to the match by winning the fourth set for a 70-14 annihilation.
The Chiefs were not satisfied with their 51-9 lead heading into the final set, and so the team remained focused and hammered shot after shot to dominate the fourth.
J.R. Rudolph connected for three aces, Ichnis Kapwich bruised the ball for two kees, and with the team holding match point, Ybonn Kapwich closed it out with an exclamation point as he drilled in a goal for the 19-5 scratch victory.
In rocball, a scratch is when a team limits the opposition to below eight points. A skunk is a shut out, with the opposition failing to close the set with a point.
For the first time this season, a team was able to win all sets via skunk or scratch.
As reported earlier, the Chiefs got off to a sizzling start on Monday and controlled the first set for a scratch, 19-2, with Ichnis Kapwich highlighting their run with a goal.
It got worse for the Ballers as the Chiefs were able to skunk the opposition with a 16-0 win in the second set, with Ybonn Kapwich hitting a goal. The Ballers actually had a point in the set, but a mishap on first serve erased the point and brought the team back to zero.
Robert Naraja had a goal fro the Ballers in the third set, but it wasn’t enough to fire up his crew as Chiefs again dominated and cruised to a 16-7 scratch victory.
With the win, the Dublon Chiefs tie defending champion Mwaliyas atop the team standings as both teams sport 2-0 win-loss records. The loss was the second straight for the Ballers in as many chances.
In all, the players were able to connect for 11 aces, three xunks, five kees, and four goals. All came from the Dublon Chiefs’ corner except for Naraja’s goal.
Ybonn Kapwich finished as the game’s heavy hitter with 18 points after going off for four aces, two kees, and two goals. Ichnis Kapwich also had 15 points on two aces, a xunk, three kees, and a goal, while Rudolph finished with 12 points on four aces and two xunks.
Second round action continues today as the Bwibwiis and 670’s Finest battle at 11:30am. Whoever survives will come out with win No. 1 after both teams fell in the first round.
