The cast of the 2006 MDX Good Sportsmanship Basketball League Coca-Cola Cup was trimmed over the past weekend, and now the four remaining squads will battle it out in the playoffs.

According to league officials, the round-robin playoffs will get underway tomorrow at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

After having the honors of opening the regular season, defending champion Samahang Ilokano at Pangasinense and Budweiser will meet anew to open the playoffs as the two collide at 6pm.

When they played on opening day, SIP was able to edge their opponents, winning by seven points, 102-95.

Taking the court in Game 2 are pennant champion RHT and No. 4 MOVER.

Action resumes on Monday, Nov. 27, with SIP battling MOVER at 6pm, and RHT and Budweiser squaring off at 7:30pm.

The final round of the round-robin contest will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 29, as RHT and SIP bang heads at 6pm, and Budweiser and MOVER battle at 7:30pm.

The two teams with the top win-loss cards will then advance to play in the championship game, which will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3.

RHT took the pennant crown after finishing the regular season with a 6-1 win-loss card, with its only loss coming from Budweiser, 125-120.

SIP also finished with a 6-1 record, losing only to RHT, 92-84, and thus, handing the team the pennant crown.

Budweiser placed third with a 5-2 card. After losing its first game to SIP, the team went on a five-game win streak and was tied with SIP and RHT with 5-1 records heading into their final bout.

Budweiser, however, lost to MOVER last Sunday.

MOVER, meanwhile, placed fourth after posting a 4-3 win-loss record, closing the regular season on a high note with the win over Budweiser.

Other teams that competed in the league but did not make the playoffs cut were Kinpachi (3-4), SMF (3-4), the Northern Youth Basketball Association All Stars (1-6), and the UFO-Apollo’s Old Stocks (0-7). Despite their losing records, all teams had their shiny moments on the court and gave the crowd something to cheer for.
