Aiken, Laniyo, Fitial in January PXC card
[/I][/B] After putting on a good show in last Saturday’s Pacfic Xtreme Combat Preba Hao, three Saipan fighters had been invited to compete in Guam early next year.
In a telephone interview on Thursday, PXC vice president Eli Monge disclosed that the three fighters have earned praise and will now test their skills in PXC on Jan. 26.
Already in the fight card for the event are Gracie Barra fighters Charleston Aiken and Manny Laniyo, as well as Kelvin Fitial of CHOKECHAIN.
Monge disclosed that Aiken earned a title shot against PXC heavyweight champion Manny “The Enforcer” Chong after winning the four-man heavyweight battle in Preba Hao.
“What better battle for it to be than the best heavyweight from Guam and the best heavyweight from Saipan battling it out for the title,” Monge said.
Meanwhile, Laniyo, who reigned supreme in the four-man lightweight battle, will next be fighting 145-lb. Carlos Quinata.
Despite a loss via judges scorecard to Aiken, Fitial still caught the attention of organizers and will be taking on Eric “The Terror” Tedtaotao, a well-established heavyweight in Guam.
“That’s why we have Preba Hao on Saipan…its a place for the Saipan fighters to show their skills and earn a chance to fight in the big show,” Monge said.
Monge said another fighter from Saipan may also be included in the fight card. However, details are still being finalized.
“These guys really impressed me and going to PXC to fight, no matter the outcome, it’s going to give them more experience,” he said.
Other fighters interested in taking their skills to Guam for PXC still have many chances to do so.
As reported earlier, PXC will continue to hold Preba Hao events on Saipan. Monge said PXC is looking at holding the “Prove Yourself” event four times a year on Saipan.
Preba Hao is already being held four times a year on Guam, while PXC is also held four times a year.
Saipan has already hosted two Preba Hao events, with the first held on Sept. 8 and the second last Saturday at the Saipan World Resort Royal Taga Hall.
Aiken defeated Fitial via unanimous decision after the two beat on each other for third rounds in the four-man battle. Aiken advanced to the finals after submitting Juan Iguel of TK9, while Fitial won via submission over “Kill” Bill Saures of Dragon Tribe.
For his part, Laniyo defeated Leroy Sablan of CHOKECHAIN in the lightweight finals. He defeated Steve Suzuki via technical knockout to advance, while Sablan beat Shabb Sablan by submission.
