Rota arrivals down nearly 50 %

Tourist arrivals on Rota plunged last month by nearly 50 percent, data from the Marianas Visitors Authority showed.

From 1,768 in October 2005, Rota arrivals went down to 1,050 last month.

Its arrivals from Guam also declined by 45 percent—from 1,140 last year to 622 last month.

Inter-island arrivals also went down from 628 last year to 428 this year, or 32 percent decrease.

MVA statistics showed that Japanese visitors who flew from Guam during the month declined from 646 to 251.

No Korean visitors arrived from Guam.

There were 316 Guamanian visitors, 39 U.S. mainlanders, and one Chinese who flew in from Guam.

Inter-island travelers included 64 Japanese, 159 U.S. citizens including Guam, 122 Filipinos, 29 Koreans, and 60 others.

Rota’s arrivals represent 2 percent of the total arrivals in the CNMI last month.

MVA said there were 34,203 tourists who arrived in the CNMI in October this year.

[B]Tinian arrivals down 22 percent[/B]

Tinian arrivals last month totaled 4,508, or a 22-percent decline from October 2005.

Tinian received more overnight visitors totaling 4,212 than daytime visitors at 296.

The nighttime visitors reflected a 19-percent decline from October 2005, which had 5,227.

Day visitors went down by 44 percent—from 531 last year to 296 this year.

Tinian’s arrivals represent 16 percent of the total CNMI arrivals last month.

[B]Saipan down 2 percent[/B]

Saipan arrivals showed a 2-percent decline from last year but it had undoubtedly cornered almost all of the visitors.

Saipan received 33,581 out of 34,203 total visitors last month.

It was a little down from 34,278 arrivals in October 2005.

Saipan hosted 21,079 Japanese, 5,818 Koreans, over 3,000 Chinese, over 1,000 Guamanians, and hundreds from the U.S., the Philippines, and other places.

There were 87 Russians and 29 Taiwanese visitors last month.
