Japan’s Shirata reigns supreme

With the picturesque setting and clear blue skies surrounding the southernmost island in the Marianas, the triathletes who competed in the 13th Annual Rota Blue Triathlon two weekends ago walked away from the experience with a mixture of good feelings and elation.

Japan’s Taro Shirato definitely was all smiles when he conquered the finish line of the 1.5- kilometer swim, 40-km bike, and 10-km Olympic-distance race with an overall completed time of 2:14:23 in the Men’s A-type Division.

Kimura Naoto, who also hails from Japan, was the second finisher of the men’s division to cross the finish line by braving the islands heat in 2:24:59, while Guam’s native Russ Cutting placing in third with a combined time of 2:29:23.

In the Men’s B-type Division, Matsumaru Masayuki who also hails from Japan toppled first place with an overall combined time of 4:22:21, with Hidea Miyazuka in second with a total time of 4:46:08 and in third was Guam’s native Shannon Cutting completing the race with an overall combined time of 4:55:49.
