Joshua, Elijah post contrasting victories
Joshua and Elijah improved their win-loss slates to 2-1 Monday night as the 2nd CIM-FCC Inter-Color Basketball League-Genesis Cup resumed at the CIM-FCC Basketball Court in Gualo Rai.
Joshua was the first to nail win No. 2 after outscoring Jeremiah in the fourth quarter, 30-9, to win by 13 points, 71-58.
Jeremiah surged ahead of a slow-starting Joshua team and took a 15-8 lead after the first quarter.
Swingman Jeff Garcia rallied Joshua to within two points of Jeremiah’s lead, 33-31, after unloading eight points in the second.
UFO veterans Errol Peredo and Kevin Cequena, however, kept Jeremiah humming in the third, pumping in five points apiece to stretch their lead to eight points, 49-41, heading into the fourth and final quarter.
Jeremiah, however, was struck with the mother of all dry spells in fourth, as they were limited to single digits, while Joshua went wild by besting that total three-fold to run away with the easy victory.
Francis Rebuyon fired 14 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth to lead Jeremiah, while big man Kelvin Fitial and Garcia added 14 apiece.
Peredo and Cequena had 15 markers each to pace Jeremiah, which dropped to 1-1.
In the second game, Elijah saved its best for last as it nipped winless Gideon, 64-62, in a low scoring but nonetheless exciting game.
Ruther Demegillo and Bartley Demapan led Elijah with 13 markers apiece, while Jerryfel Mangahis was the highpoint man for 0-2 Gideon with 22 points.
