The defending champions of the Inter-Government Men’s Slow-Pitch Softball League are determined to retain their crown as the unbeaten Department of Community and Cultural Affairs won its fourth straight contest to remain atop the standings.

Though they never underestimate any opponent, there was little doubt that John Reyes and company would surrender a loss when the shortstopper lead off the game with a home run as the DCCA shelled the Department of Public Works, 17-2, at Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Field.

First baseman Ton Camacho continued his hit parade with a pair of two-run home runs on Wednesday night while Reyes led by example by hitting 3-for-4 and was just a triple away from hitting for the cycle.

Pitcher Mel Sakisat went the distance for DCCA and aided his cause with a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate that produced a pair of base hits, a round-tripper, and two runs batted in.

The game lasted only five innings when DPW failed to score six runs in its final at bat forcing umpires to enforce the league’s 10-run mercy rule

No Zone maintained its grip on second place after blasting Procurement & Supply, 15-2, in another abbreviated contest under the lights at the Oleai Sports Complex by doubling their opponent’s hit total for the night.

Second baseman and biker cop Mike Landon was the picture of perfection in his three trips to the plate with a string of singles and a run batted in, while left fielder Jonathan Delos Santos drove in a pair of runs on his three-bagger in the fourth inning.

Centerfielder Roy Kaipat also produced a pair of tallies for the Enforcers when his two-run shot gave No Zone the lead for good in the second—one that his team never surrendered.

They heavy hitters who protect the CNMI by land, sea, and air had no problem safeguarding their lead after scoring early and often on the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation.

Shortstop Reno Celis went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and an inside-the-park homer and Jordan “Da Man” Kosam smacked an RBI single for the boys in blue while outfielder Mike Sablan Sa-blasted an RBI single and crossed the plate for the eventual game-winning run in the second inning on an error.
