A regular chartered flights from Beijing to Saipan will officially begin on Dec. 17, with CNMI government and tourism officials, led by acting Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez attending the launching ceremony in Beijing.

“The flights are confirmed. It’s a go,” said Century Tours operations manager Henry Pun in an interview yesterday.

He said that based on the program, the CNMI delegation would consist of about eight people including Villagomez and other tourism industry representatives.

The maiden flight arrives on Saipan at about 330am on Dec. 17. Pun said the first trip carries 194 passengers.

“All seats are taken,” he said.

He said the chartered flights will be serviced by Air China. The flights will take place twice a week on Fridays and Mondays.

The Beijing flights are chartered solely by Century Tours, which is one of the only two CNMI-based tour agencies accredited under the 2004 CNMI-China Approved Destination Status agreement.

Pun said earlier that Air China would use a Boeing 767, which would mean an additional 428 seats from the China market a week.

Right now, China is serviced by China Southern Airlines from Guangzhou and China Eastern Airlines from Shanghai.
