Leaders representing various ethnic and political organizations as well as some notable activists met recently. The meeting was held to discuss the plans to form a coalition of CNMI guest workers. An interim set of officers is now in place to spearhead the preparation of the first general assembly which is calendared on May 4, 2008. Venue will be announced later. Membership is limited to guest workers only. Some of the issues that the coalition will work on are the immediate scrapping of PL 15-108, granting of citizenship to qualified guest workers, and guest workers’ representation on the formulation of the implementing regulations among other things.

There will be an intensive campaign to reach out to all the guest workers on CNMI so they can be invited to attend the first general assembly.

If you are a guest worker and have a question, please email me at irenebdi@yahoo.com. I’m sure that most of the guest workers like myself would want to see a solid and credible organization to represent us in all the issues involving us. The time is now to be united so we can provide a strong political voice for us, guest workers, in the changing times.
