Attorneys Reynaldo O. Yana and Antonio M. Atalig are still in jail and are expected to appear in court this week.

Saipan Tribune learned that a status conference in the civil contempt against Yana and Atalig was for this Thursday at 9am.

At the status conference, Superior Court associate judge Kenneth Govendo may determine if he will order the continued imprisonment of the two lawyers.

Department of Corrections commissioner Lino Tenorio said Yana and Atalig are detained in the same cell.

Tenorio said the two lawyers are receiving the same treatment just like any other detainees.

Yana and Atalig have been in jail since March 25 when Govendo threw them to jail for not complying with his order to return the $1.3 million in attorney’s fees that the two lawyers received in the controversial Angel Malite estate probate.

Govendo ordered Yana and Atalig to report to DOC to serve their 30-day sentence for civil contempt.

Govendo said the two lawyers may purge the contempt by posting $1,285,500.
