Hustlers edge Aztecs in Big League

John Mafnas pitched in no relief and drove in the winning run to lift the Hustlers to a 6-5 win over the UMDA Aztecs in yesterday’s Big League division game in the Saipan Little League at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.

Mafnas pitched a complete game and was tagged with four earned runs on nine hits fanning four and giving up no walks.

He then ripped an RBI single to allow Tyrone Cabrera to score the game-winning run as the Hustlers wrested the lead with their 8-3 record entering the final stages of the league.

The Hustlers were trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh.

Josh Arriola had a lead off single then A.J. Dela Cruz grounded out on a 5-3 play for the first out as the Aztecs need to retire the next two batters to preserve the win.

Cabrera connected on an RBI triple to allow Arriola to score the tying run while Mafnas drove him in with a single to end the game.

Hustlers 12, Dolphins 2

Sunday’s win was the Hustlers’ second straight in the first week of May as they also scored a 12-2 triumph over the PTI Dolphins on May 1.

Giovanni Ayuyu pitched six innings in the game shortened by the 10-run mercy rule. He gave up one earned run on three hits retiring 11 batters and walking two more.

Ayuyu held the Dolphins to a 3-for-21 batting or a .142 average. He also went 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBIs.

Joel Satur went 3-for-4 with scoring twice and had a double.

SENIOR LEAGUE
Jets 32, Lion King 5

Eli Augenbaugh lasted for five innings to help the JET Realty Jets cruise to a 32-5 win over the Kagman Lion Heartsof Reps. Ed Salas and Rosmond Santos yesterday in the Senior League.

Augenbaugh allowed four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. He even pitched three scoreless and hitless innings before giving up a single to Wally Emul Jr.

In the bottom of the fifth, Augenbaugh struck out Stanley Santos but walked Thornton Santos and then gave up a double to Joe Aldan to put runners at the corners. Angel Santos singled to load the bases setting up Emul’s RBI double .

He did not lose focus after that forcing Jack Muna to ground out on a 4-3 play where second baseman John Salas fielding it cleanly to first baseman Toby Fleming.

Augenbaugh then struck out John Welson to end the game.
