More than 30 students between the ages of four to 50 years old will showcase their talents in playing the violin next Saturday as part of the Do Re Mi School’s culminating activity for the school year.

The 19th Annual Violin Recital will be held May 17 at the Agape Building of the Eucon International School and College. The recital will be from 4pm to 6pm. Tickets are being sold with admission fees of $8 for adults and $5 for children ages five to 12.

There will be solo performances, duets, quartets and a group performance.

The violinists will be playing concerto and sonata masterpieces composed by classical greats such as Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Wienniawski, Handel, and many more. The musical numbers will be led by Maestro Ao Zhang.

Do Re Mi was founded in April 1992. Zhang, the school director, said he has been teaching violin to students of all ages and ethnic backgrounds for 19 years.

“I have spent a lifetime playing the violin and have been so fortunate to share my love for this beautiful instrument with others,” he said.

Zhang said some of his students are pursuing doctorate degrees in the mainland. He said one of his students won third place in one of the state championships and one recently won first place in the CNMI Little Big Star, also held in the Multi-Purpose Center early this year.

“Besides our grand recital, the students of Do Re Mi have given many benefit concerts for senior citizens, the hospital, the Flame Tree Arts Festival, Korean and Chinese Association events, as well as the Christmas Concert at the Supreme Court,” Zhang said.

Tickets for this year’s violin recital are being sold at the Eucon International School. Call the Do Re Mi School of Music at 233-7777.
