Newly appointed Commonwealth Utilities Corp. executive director Antonio Muna said he is not hiring a public information officer “at the moment.”

“I need line people [and] meter readers,” Muna told the media.

The CUC official said that, although power generation acting manager Gary Camacho is not a PIO by trade, he will perform the information officer’s job whenever he is available.

“We will continue the status quo. But as far as hiring any spokesperson or PIO, definitely not at the moment,” Muna stressed.

He said CUC would do its best to inform the public at least one day in advance whenever there is a load shedding to be implemented.

Some school officials recently complained that CUC did not inform the schools in advance about power rotation schedules.

Since Pamela Mathis resigned Feb. 14 as spokesperson for CUC—a position she held for 15 years—the utility has had no permanent PIO.

Mathis moved to Arizona to work as spokesperson for the Department of Interior’s Bureau of Land Management.
