Ecalnea lifts Sonics past G-Rollers
Tristan Ecalnea overcame a slow start to lift the Southern Sonics to a 62-52 win over G-Rollers in Friday’s 14-and-under division of the Northern Youth Basketball Association’s 16-and-under league at the Garapan court.
Ecalnea only had eight points in the first half but waxed hot with 18 in the final 20 minutes of the game to finish with 26 markers. He also had two assists and grabbed seven of the Sonics’ season-low 11 rebounds.
John Villanueva added 14 points and had a game-high seven steals as G-Rollers guards went sloppy with their ball handling skills.
G-Rollers had one less in steals 13-14, but enjoyed a 26-11 lead in rebounds, and 11-4 in assists. They also blocked four shots against the one of G-Rollers’ courtesy of Melvin Cadiang.
Shaj Hossain and Ichitaro Faisao had four and three steals, while Jonathan Norita collared 11 rebounds. Faisao also had five steals, while John Norita had three steals, two assists, and two rebounds.
Faisao also paced G-Rollers with 19 points while Hossain added 11 markers.
