Young authors write close to 1,500 books
Students at the William S. Reyes Elementary showcased their writing skills yesterday afternoon as the school held its annual Young Authors Book Fair.
With this year’s theme, “Read a book and imagine it come to life” fourth grade teacher Margie Pangelinan said it encourages the students to read, “and not just to read but to really imagine it coming to life.”
Close to 1,500 books were written by students from kindergarten to sixth grade.
The students began working on their books at the beginning of the school year, learning about writing and editing their work as the year went by. Pangelinan said each student wrote about two books each and each class compiled one book together.
“What we really want to encourage is for the students to the students to understand what they are reading and use their creative thinking,” Pangelinan said.
A third grade student said she enjoyed the fair because it makes her feel like a young author.
“It took me three days to write my book [Monsters Under My Bed] and it was really fun. I had a lot of help from my mom and my tita and it makes me happy to see other students reading my book,” the third grade author said.
Pangelinan said the book fair showcases the creativity instilled in the students and gives them a chance to share their ideas and imagination with their fellow classmates.
“There is no competition but it is really nice how everybody comes together and display their work. It’s also nice that we are able to see how colorful and imaginative these students are every year,” Pangelinan said.
