Rasiang, Ogumoro, Manahane are Top Gun champs
Police officers Norman Rasiang and Raquel Ogumoro and Ports Police sergeant Melvin Manahane emerged as this year’s Top Gun champions.
The Commonwealth Ports Authority’s SPOC team was also declared as this year’s Top Gun’s team champion, while the Department of Public Safety’s Clyde’s Angels Team was the uncontested champion in the female team competition.
DPS spokesman Lei Ogumoro said yesterday that 50 personnel from eight agencies participated in the annual competition, held at the DPS Firing Range in San Juan, Saipan Wednesday last week.
In the Men’s Singles Competition, veteran top gun shooter Police Officer 2 Norman Rasiang used a 3.9-inch Glock 23 .40 caliber to grab first place in his square off with Sgt. Juan Rebuenog of CPA.
Rebuenog fired a 3.9-inch Glock 19 pistol to capture the second place. Sgt. Joe Palacios of CPA landed on third spot.
In the Firearm Instructors’ Competition, Sgt. Melvin Manahane of CPA successfully claimed the Instructor Top Gun champion trophy by beating seven other participants.
Special agent Jim Barry of the Federal Bureau of Investigation won second place, while CPA assistant chief Jordan Kosam grabbed third place.
In the Female Singles Competition, DPS Police Officer 1 Raquel Ogumoro successfully defended her title by using a four-inch Smith and Wesson 5906 semi-automatic pistol. She got a perfect score on the Remington 870 pump-action shotgun.
DPS Police Officer 2 Tricia Seman grabbed second place, while DPS Police Officer 2 Mary Lou Tanaka came in third.
In the Men’s Team Competition, four-time Team Top Gun Champion CPA’s SPOC broke their own record last year to emerge champion again. The team—composed of Sergeants Juan Rebuenog, Joe Palacios, Melvin Manahane, and assistant chief Jordan Kosam—completed the confined shooting combat course with a new record time of 2 minutes and 11 seconds.
The course included firing a submachine gun at 50 yards, pistol barricade shooting at 15 yards, pistol prone position at 15 yards, and shotgun at 25 yards.
DPS Criminal Investigation Division’s Team Stimulus composed of Officers Peter Camacho, Roy Kaipat, Joey Cruz, and Kevin Maratita clinched the second spot.
Division of Fish and Wildlife’s Team, consisting of conservation officers Juan Kapileo, Tony Mareham, Peter Teigita, and Ray Cabrera, took the third place.
In the Female’s Team Competition, as there was no opponent, DPS Clyde’s Angels team was declared champion. The team—composed of Officers Tricia Seman, Melissa Bauleong, Mary Lou Tanaka, Raquel Ogumoro, and Catherine Pangelinan—decided to test their skills in the men’s category.
The Angels set a record as the first female team to score a perfect score of 21 out of 21 with a new time of 3:38.
