Teens excited about start of Liberation Day Fest
Today will be the first day of the Liberation Day Festival—an event that teens on the island have been anxiously waiting for so they could hang out with friends and families.
Also known as the Carnival, the festival will have booths selling a variety of items such as clothes and accessories, different kinds of food, and games.
The Saipan Tribune went around yesterday to ask teens if they are excited about today’s Liberation Day festival opening.
LENA GUZMAN, 16, MHS student: “I am very excited. The carnival is one of the best places to hang out with friends this summer. I basically miss everything. All the rides, food, and performances are great.”
MARY ANN GUEVARRA, 18, Liberal Arts major at Northern Marianas College: “Of course I am very excited, especially we will have a performance with my dance group, Project Impact. The number one thing I can’t wait is to ride the Octopus. The Octopus is very fun, fast and breathtaking.”
JESSELYN SABLAN, 16: “Yes, I am. I really can’t wait to go there on Friday. I really enjoy being there because it’s fun. My favorite ride is the Octopus. I also love the cultural performances and Polynesian dances.”
JR CONCEPTION, 15, 10TH grade in Marianas High School: “I’m excited because it’s going to be fun. I’ll be hanging out with friends, eating a lot of good food. I would definitely go there this Friday.”
MINDY PARK, 18, nursing major at Northern Marianas College: “July 4th has always been the same and it’s growing old every year. I’m not too thrilled about it. However, the carnival would be a great place to hang out when there’s a blackout.”
ROQUE INDALECIO, 18, Education major at Northern Marianas College: “It doesn’t really bother me because all these things going on like the power outages and gas prices rising, I don’t think people would be ecstatic about this upcoming event.”
ZAYNA CAMACHO, 21, Business Management major at Northern Marianas College: ” I wouldn’t say that I am excited about July 4th, but I think it’s a great time to spend time with family and friends. I am hoping that this year would be different, with more rides and games, entertainments and booths and more local food booths.”
CHARLYN TECHUR, 19, Business Management major at NMC: “I can’t say I’m as excited as I was when I was a child, but I do think it’s a good event for the public. It’s one of the only events that families, friends, teens, and most especially children look forward to each year. Hopefully there are new games and food!”
