Dr. Henaro Sabino Jr. recently returned to the island to treat children with heart diseases on Tinian, Saipan, and Rota.

The pediatric cardiology clinic ran this past week (from June 2 to 6) at the Children’s Clinic of the Commonwealth Health Center.

His one-week visit is just the beginning of what is hoped to be regular, annual visits to provide consistent care for this important population of the CNMI (children with heart disease).

The pediatric cardiology clinic was made possible with the support of CHC, which provided the airfare for Dr. Sabino.

Dr. Sabino was born and raised on the island of Saipan, having graduated from Hopwood Junior High in 1984, and Marianas High School in 1987.

He did his undergraduate training at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, before returning to teach for a few years at the Northern Marianas College.

He started his medical career at the John A. Burns School of Medicine in Hawaii in 1996, then continued on to do his residency and cardiology fellowship at the Medical College in Augusta, Georgia, until 2006.

He is presently employed by the Sibley Heart Center Cardiology, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Emory University and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia.

The pediatric cardiology clinic arose out of Dr. Sabino’s desires to serve the children of the CNMI. “I take vacation time from my work and come here to have a full week of clinic to treat the children of the CNMI with congenital heart and heart problems,” said Dr. Sabino.

He is the son of Dr. Henaro Sabino Sr., a dentist for many years at the Commonwealth Health Center, and Mrs. Lupe Sabino, a long-time (now retired) algebra teacher at Hopwood Jr. High School.

He is happily married to Ronna Daley Sabino daughter of Anna Ludwick, and is a proud father of four beautiful children: Courtney, 10; Caleb, 5; Cai, 3; and Clay, 1.
