110 sign up for Co-ed Soccer Summer League
The NMIFA Co-ed Soccer Summer League’s regular season kicks off today with a bumper crop of recruits for the 2008 edition.
According to league commissioner Angelo Villagomez, a total of 110 players have signed up for this year’s competition at the CPA Airport Field. Of the number, 48 are women and are 62 men.
“These are more players than those who played last year,” he said.
The 110 players are spread out into six teams—Blue, Orange, White, Yellow, Green, and Red.
Of the teams, only Team Orange and Team Red have officials name already as the latter is named Devil’s Advocates and the former is Captain Morgan’s.
Villagomez said the regular season starts tomorrow with Devil’s Advocates taking on Jason Shroeder’s Yellow Team.
On Wednesday, Dean Tenorio’s Blue Team will take on Captain Morgan’s, while Thursday’s action will see Steve McKagan’s White Team square off against Greg Borja’s Green Team.
The NMIFA Co-ed Soccer Summer League held its preseason last week with Devil’s Advocate getting the better of Blue Team, 3-1; Yellow Team nosing out White Team, 4-3; and Captain Morgan’s winning 6-2 over Green Team.
Villagomez said the league lasts for eight weeks, with games played on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons. Each team will play one game per week.
Games will start at 5:15pm on game days and will consist of two 35-minute halves with five-minute halftimes.
