Pew spew? Or more Wespac sputum?
I read with amusement Mr. Jim Davies’ letter to the editor (at least the letter had his name at the end of it), “Pew spew.” I would be very surprised if Mr. Davies actually wrote that letter, since the style is quintessentially characteristic of Mr. Wespac himself, Mr. John Gourley. You can spot his specious style by the overly lengthy letter, the abundant half-truths, and the plethora of irrelevant details.
It is no wonder Mr. Gourley is fighting so hard to destroy this proposal. He is a Marianas Archipelago advisory panel member of the federally investigated Western Pacific Regional Fisheries Council, which stands to lose money with the designation of a national marine monument in the CNMI because their funding is based on the area they govern. How is your motivation, John? Isn’t it odd how Wespac receives 25 percent of all the funding out of the eight U.S. regional fisheries councils, but catches only 2 percent of the fish? How can that be? Please explain that to me, John. I am confused how that is even possible? Amazing! Run that by me, again: 25 percent of the funding for 2 percent of the fish. Wow!
Maybe one should consider, how the executive director of Wespac, Kitty Simonds, receives more money than every other U.S. government official in the United States other than the President and Vice President! Talk about government waste, fraud, and abuse! She and Wespac are under two federal investigations now for using federal money to influence the Hawaii governor and Legislature. Doesn’t that sound familiar to anyone?
