Former national golfer Joji Taguchi led the winners of the 9th Annual St. Jude Golf Tournament after topping the Championship Flight last Saturday at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort.

Taguchi finished the 18 holes of golf with a two-over 74 after negotiating the west course of the Kagman venue with identical 37s in the front and back nines.

Defending champion Jess Wabol finished second this time, three strokes off Taguchi’s pace with a five-over 77 (39-38), while Alex Aquiningoc took third place with his nine-over 81 (44-37)

Taguchi’s son Tim, meanwhile, won the A Flight after shooting a 36 in the front and a 40 in the back for a gross score of four-over 76.

Ben Jones and Asterio Tawanpiy finished tied in second place with both golfers needing 79 strokes to finish off the one round of golf in the fundraiser, but the former took the runner-up title after beating the latter in a tiebreak.

For the record Jones fired a 41 in the front and a 38 in the back, while Tawanpiy scored a 39-40.

In B Flight, Freddie Cataluna came away with a seven-over 79 to hold off challengers House Speaker Arnold Palacios and Rudy Sablan, while C Flight was won by John Terlaje followed by George Sablan and Ray Villagomez.

In the Ladies Flight, Loudes Kim won the Low Gross competition after needing just 85 strokes to finish 18 holes of golf. Kim came away with a 42-43 in the front and back nines.

Shiori Onoue and Terry Attao, meanwhile, finished first and second in the Ladies Low Net.

The Taguchis, Cataluna, Terlaje, and Onoue went home with $300, while their respective runners-up and third place finishers won $200 and $100. All winners also received handsome trophies courtesy of the organizing committee.

Hole-in-one challenges were also in the mix in holes No. 3 (automobile), 7 ($10,000), 12 (automobile/motorcycle), and 14 ($10,000), but none of the golfers was successful in their attempts.
