Muna ready to leave CUC at anytime
“I don’t plan to be in this job permanently.”
Thus stated Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s executive director Antonio Muna in response to some sectors’ call for his replacement.
Muna told Saipan Tribune that as long as Gov. Benigno R. Fitial needs his services, he would stay as CUC executive director.
“When the time comes that I need to go, I’m ready to go,” he stressed.
Muna said it is the governor’s particular convenience if he decides to have a change in CUC leadership.
With respect to the recent forum at the Multi-Purpose Center where over 200 people vented their frustration with CUC and expressed solutions and called for privatization, Muna said people have the right to express their opinion.
“I respect that. But people have to understand also that solving a problem like this is about capital. You can say whatever you want to say but absent money on the table, you really can’t do much about this situation,” he said.
Muna said he acknowledged that there are some service issues at CUC such as people unable to contact the trouble desk and billing disputes.
“Those are managerial. And from my standpoint I’m expecting more from my managers to resolve these service issues…to get people connected within a certain period of time. So that’s being developed,” he said.
Muna, who’s been with CUC for over a month now, described his job as “definitely challenging.”
“Frustration comes with the territory, particularly when you want to move faster. When you are financially challenged, you can’t move as quickly as you want. If there is any frustration it is in that because we know what the people need,” he said.
Taotao Tano leader Greg Cruz has reportedly demanded the termination of Muna. At the recent Multi-Purpose forum, the appointment of a “competent executive director” was also among the issues discussed.
Fitial appointed Muna effective May 5 to replace Anthony Guerrero.
