Hyatt holds ping-pong tourney
Hyatt Regency Saipan recently held a ping-pong tournament with Club Elan attendant and all-around athlete Dexter Dillay and front office assistant manager Amy Lu besting 23 other participants.
Dillay beat Froilan Wabol, 11-8, 9-11, 12-10, while Lu defeated Lucy Choi in straight sets, 11-8 and 12-10.
According to tournament organizer, Budhi Gurung of the Northern Marianas Amateur Table Tennis Association, the whole tournament only lasted a couple of hours as they only adopted a best-of-three single-round elimination format for the competition.
Gurung, who works for Sablan Topline Cleaning Services, served as umpire and tournament coordination of the event. The ping-pong tournament was held at the poolside of the Garapan landmark.
The ping-pong tournament was part of Hyatt Regency Saipan’s “Celebrating Our People” sports program held for three consecutive days from June 9 to June 11, 2008.
Aside from table tennis, Hyatt employees also tried their hand in canoeing, beach volleyball, badminton, soccer, fishing, and lawn tennis.
“On three different dates from sunrise to sunset, employees were able to participate in their sport of choice,” said Gurung.
