Saipan team to take part in three-day walk
Team Saipan Sweet Feet will represent the CNMI in the Susan G. Komen for the Cure event, a three-day walk that supports the cause to find a cure against breast cancer. The event will be held in Seattle, Washington on Sept. 12-14, 2008.
Each member of the CNMI team will walk a total of 60 miles, at 20 miles a day for three days.
Members of the team are Pamela Brown, Roberta Guerrero, Claire Kosack, Bobbi Grizzard, Rhoda Smith, Kazuyo Tojo and Pam’s sister, Corrine Loprinzi, and Team Captain Marian Aldan-Pierce. The team members will meet up with thousands of men and women in Seattle, Washington for the three-day walk.
Seafix Inc.—a leading maintenance and repair facility on Saipan and the primary industrial assistance provider to the Military Sealift Command Pre-Position Fleet stationed here in the Marianas—is one of the major sponsors of Team Saipan Sweet Feet, with a donation of $1,000 to fund the team’s trip.
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists dedicated to the fight against breast cancer and finding the cure for breast cancer at every stage.
Eighty five percent of the net proceeds of this event will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The remaining 15 percent of the net funds will go to the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund, which aims to provide ongoing support to breast cancer initiatives.
Seafix general manager Mark Blackburn urged others in the community to support the team. “The team would be pleased to have any supporters for the event. So if you see any of these gals walking in preparation for the 3-Day, show them your support, honk your horn, give them a shout,” he said.
