Trench Tech president and Trench Warz promoter Cuki Alvarez recently extended his sincere appreciation to mixed martial arts fans who came out in droves to watch Trench Warz VIII: Kontra held last June 21 at the Trench Tech Gym.

“I just want to thank all the diehard MMA Trench Tech fans for coming out and supporting Trench Warz VIII. Although it was the first time we had it in our new gym, it definitely will not be the last,” he said.

Alvarez acknowledged that the venue was a bit too warm for everyone in attendance’s comfort but made a good spin out of the situation when he said, “I know it was a little hot in the beginning and that was because the action was hot!”

But kidding aside, the Trench Tech president said he will continue to make improvements in the Trench Tech Gym in the months to come.

“We will continue to work on improving our facility and especially our air-conditioning system. You got to remember, the building was a dilapidated 21-year-old garment factory and when we moved into the place two months ago, it was in much need of a facelift—both inside and outside—and much was improved since we first moved in,” he said.

Alvarez said with the funds raised from Warz VIII: Kontra and other planned MMA events, Trench Tech will acquire a new 15-ton air-conditioner from Toshiba.

“It is our commitment and goal to continue to bring top-caliber MMA events to our islands and at the same time promote our local island warriors and help them excel in the sport of mixed martial arts… hence our adage: ‘long live the island warriors and long live MMA!’”

On the issue of Rick “2 Slick” San Nicolas’ no show against Ton “Butdosa” Sablan in their super heavyweight fight in Trench Warz VII, Alvarez said the South Syde Syndicates fighter will not be suspended.

“He won’t be suspended, it was a family emergency and everything was cleared. In fact he will be fighting on July 12 as the main event,” he said.

The event Alvarez is referring to is Trench Tech’s scheduled Fan Appreciation Fight Night scheduled on that day where, “the first 100 fans will be free, the next 100 fans will pay $1, and the next 100 fans after will pay $2 and so on…”

Also according to Alvarez, Neil “Lionheart” Taisacan of Haga Team is doing fine after he was forced to tap out in his semi main event match-up against Slade “The Rage” Adelbai. Ditto for “No Way” Jose Mafnas of Trench Tech/Grappling Unlimited Hawaii who lost via submission against “Brutal” Bryson Sablan.

“He (Taisacan) is fine and will fully recover from a slightly dislocated shoulder and Jose ‘No Way’ Mafnas suffered a minor sprain on his left knee via a knee lock, but is walking around and feeling much better and will start training next week. Other than that, all was a slammin’ success!”
